Every night was New Year's Eve.
That was the concept: a New Year's Eve celebration, every single night. Fireworks. A countdown. The kind of night that didn't care what time it was. Merriweather Adam Pleasure's abandoned shipbuilding operation, lovingly restored into the most fun anyone was legally allowed to have at Walt Disney World.
There was Mannequins, with its revolving dance floor. The Comedy Warehouse, where the improv never missed. The Adventurers Club — not just a bar, but a living theatrical experience, with cast members, storylines, and the greeting that cult-like fans still use to find each other: Kungaloosh.
On September 27, 2008, former workers and fans came to say goodbye. The New Year's Eve fireworks happened one last time. And then Pleasure Island officially closed.
It's Disney Springs now. It's fine. It's not the same.
The It Was a Pleasure tee is for the people who were there — and for the ones who were just barely too young and have spent years feeling cheated about it. Either way, you know what was lost.
Kungaloosh.
