And two trash cans in the foreground. Because that's what's in the foreground when you stand there.
Everyone who visits your house sees a torii and a pagoda and a very nice sun. You see the trash cans. That's the whole point of these prints: Disney on the wall, without Disney being on the wall.
The buildings are the pavilion's, each one a scaled copy of a real place — the gate at Itsukushima, the pagoda at Hōryū-ji, Himeji Castle. They don't line up like this in the courtyard. They do in the painting.
